El Agua y el Fuego

El Agua y El Fuego (Water and Fire) by Jose Rizal is a very short composition excerpt from the novel El Filibusterismo Chapter entitled Bajo Cubierta.  The chapter mentions Isagani, one of the many characters of the novel, when he expressed some grievances to Simoun Ibarra when they met in the ship going to Laguna de Bay.  This poem expresses the poet’s great passion: His native country’s advancement.
