Tinaguriang "Prinsipe ng Panulaan" sa Bisaya at "Makata ng Bohol".
Dalawang taong nagturo sa Mataas na Paaralang Panlalawigan ng Bohol.
Dalawang beses naging Kongresista na kumatawan sa Silangang Visayas (1941).
Naging gobernador ng Bohol mula 1932 hanggang 1942.
Noong Ikalawang Digmaang Pandaigdig ay sumapi sa Guerilla Forces na lumaban sa mga Hapon.
Nahalal na Pangalawang-Pangulo ni Pangulong Ramon Magsaysay noong 1953.
Naging Kalihim ng Kagawaran ng Ugnayang Panlabas.
Nanumpa bilang pangulo ng Pilipinas makaraan ang araw ng kamatayan ng Pangulong Magsaysay sa pagbagsak ng eroplanong sinasakyan nito noong Marso 18, 1957.
Nahalal na Pangulo ng Republika ng Pilipinas sa opisyal na halalang pampanguluhan noong Nobyembre 1957.
Nagpatupad ng patakarang "Pilipino Muna" na ang layunin ay tangkilikin ang sariling gawa tulad ng mga produktong Pilipino, wikang Pilipino, Musika, Arte at lahat ng gawa ng mga Pilipino. Binigyang pansin din ng palatuntunan ang pagbibigay prayoridad sa mga Pilipino kaysa mga banyaga.
Tinapos ang kasunduang Pagbabayad-Pinsala ng Hapon na nagtatakda ng pagbabayad ng $550 milyon sa Pilipinas ng Hapon sa pinsalang tinamo ng bansa sa digmaan.
Naging pangulo ng 1971-1972 Constitutional Convention.
Nahalal na pangulo ng Second Constitutional Convention noong Hunyo 11, 1971.

Tagged as the "Prince of Poetry" in the Visayas and "Poet of Bohol".
Taught at Bohol Provincial High School for two years.
Two-time congressman, who represented Eastern Visayas (1941).
Was governor of Bohol from 1932 to 1942.
Joined the Guerilla Forces who fought the Japanese during the Second World War.
Was elected Vice-President of President Ramon Magsaysay in 1953.
Was appointed Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Took oath as President of the Philippines after the death of President Magsaysay who died in a plane crash on March 18, 1957.
Was elected President of the Republic of the Philippines at the official presidential election in November 1957.
Implemented the principle of "Pilipino Muna" (Filipino First Policy), which aimed to support and patronize Filipino-made products, Filipino language, music, arts and everything Filipino. Created a program which gave priority to all Filipinos over foreign nationals in the country.
Accomplished the $ 550 million War Damage Claim from Japan for the rehabilitation of the Philippines from destruction caused by war.
Was president of the 1971-1972 Constitutional Convention.
Was elected President of the Second Constitutional Convention on June 11, 1971.
