Tagulaylay kay Federico Garcia Lorca / Lament for Federico Garcia Lorca - Page 2 of 2

Tula ni

Bienvenido Lumbera

Ay, Granadang palalo,
hitanang walang puso!

Napipi ang liblib
nang ibo’y bumagsak
sa mabatong dibdib.
Bansot na oliba’y
umunat, tumindig
nang uhaw ng ugat
sa dugo mapatid.

Basag na gitara
Ang tinig ng hanging
Nagbuntung-hininga,
Nagkalat ng amoy
ng lupa’t adelpa
sa tulog na lungsod
ng mga hitana…

Ay, proud Granada,
heartless gypsy.

The desolate spot was struck dumb
when the bird dropped
on its rocky breast.
The stunted olive
straightened up and rose
when the thirsty vein
slaked its thirst on blood.

The voice of the sighing wind
was a broken guitar,
spreading the scent
of earth and oleander
in the sleeping city
of the gypsies.
